Hands-on review

NSABERS Maul SE

A bold double saber with clear sound and bright effects. Its two hilts also work on their own. It has some problems, but it feels unlike any other saber here.

My verdict

Buy it for the Darth Maul look, the many sound and light effects in the Proffie version, and two hilts you can use on their own. The long blades flex a little when you duel with the staff. This is normal and does not mean they are coming loose. Twice during duelling, one saber froze with a long, steady beep. I could not turn it on or off. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery reset it. The freeze happened during a duel, likely after an impact.

Why I like it

Two Sabers in One

Join the hilts to make a Darth Maul-style staff. Or split them into two sabers and share one with a friend. One set gives you two ways to play.

Reset issue

Froze twice. A battery reset fixed it.

What came in the box

The box had two metal hilts, two 36-inch plastic blades, blade plugs, gloves, two USB cables, tools, spare O-rings, a manual and a display stand. The stand helps hold this long, heavy saber.

How to put it together

The hilts join to make one staff or split into two sabers. I tried both ways with friends and family. The grooved grips felt secure, and the saber was easy to balance. The full staff needs plenty of space.

The long blades flex a little when you duel with the staff. This is normal and does not mean they are coming loose. Three thumb screws came loose and fell out during duelling, even though I had tightened them. I used a tiny drop of medium-strength Thread Locker Blue to stop a screw from rattling loose. Lighting, sound and controls

The Proffie version makes sounds when you move it. It has many sound and light choices, rainbow lights and hit effects. I liked the Darksaber sound best. The battery lasted through my tests.

Twice during duelling, one saber froze with a long, steady beep. I could not turn it on or off. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery reset it. The freeze happened during a duel, likely after an impact. The manual did not say how to reset it. The website also made it hard to change the volume.

How it held up in duels

After hours of duelling, I found no dents or clear damage. That is a good sign, but I tested only one set for a short time. It does not prove how long every set will last.

Who should buy it?

Get it for the Maul look, two sabers in one set and the many effects in the Proffie version. If space is tight, try shorter blades or use one hilt. Three hilt screws came loose during my tests, and one saber froze twice with a steady beep.
